Tips for the Entrepreneur – Which Social Media Platform Should I Use?

If you are new to MLM or multi-level marketing this may be the first time that you are venturing out onto social media for the purposes of business. Most people tend to start right off at the get go with Facebook marketing because they are the most familiar with Facebook through personal use. Facebook is a great place to start for sure but it may or may not be where your true talents in marketing are found. Personally, I spend the majority of my time on Facebook which is partially because I run a busy and growing Facebook group where I love interacting and networking with the members. With that said let’s have a closer look at some of the other social media platforms out there that are used for business and try to help you figure out which one is best for you! So let’s dig deep into the entrepreneurial world and get the social media scoop!

Twitter

Twitter is good for ‘breaking news’, timely insights, and quick announcements. Tweeting has the potential of reaching a huge audience and it is very easy to tweet but you just have to be more clear, concise and to the point as there is a limit on the number of characters you can have for your message. Twitter is rather like text messaging and is most effective when you engage with your followers in 2-way conversations. Twitter is a very quick and direct way of getting a message to your followers where you can expect people to respond to you fairly quickly. Keep in mind though that Twitter is an extremely busy place so you have to Tweet several times a day so your Tweets get noticed and don’t get buried among all the other Tweets and forgotten. If you are the type of person where being efficient and to the point with the expectation of engaging with your followers tweets in a timely fashion then Twitter is for you.

Pinterest

Pinterest to this point has a primarily female audience and is great for people promoting a business where visual imagery is important. You can tell a great deal about your products when you use good quality, visually appealing images but you have to ask yourself if the story of what your product and/or service stands for can be told effectively through photos. You can however share your website link and a short description with the photo which definitely is an asset and other ‘pinners’ can like your pins and comment below them, even sending you a personal message if they wish. Think about your audience as well… are they likely to collect images about products and/or services in order to make buying decisions? So to sum it all up, if your business is such that you can inform people and inspire them through images then Pinterest is the place for you. If this is not the case then let’s see what else we can come up with!

Instagram

Instagram is also a force to be reckoned with in the social media world and not just a trend or phase people are going through. If, like Pinterest, your business can be represented well visually then Instagram is for you. Instagram is not only for photos but you can also display short videos which is a definite advantage in promoting your business Instagram has many cool features and one of the greatest is the ability to edit photos such as by applying filters allowing them to convey much more meaning than the original photo would have. This allows your photos to show more of your personality which aides in branding YOU as an entrepreneur. You need to be creative with Instagram that’s for sure because you only have the comments section of your photo or video to convey any additional info you want to share. You can also share an active hyperlink in your bio section so use it wisely! If you like creating fun, exciting, visual content for your business then Instagram is for you!

YouTube

YouTube is a very powerful tool because if your videos are done in an unforgettable way that captures people’s attention then they have the potential of going viral or getting thousands to millions of hits. The bar is set pretty high though in that you have to not only be able to capture people’s attention but to keep it. Most people decide within the first minute or so of watching a video if the video is interesting enough to keep watching to the end so you must not make your videos too long as people are more apt to watch complete videos that get their point across in a shorter time than a longer one. Videos that provide training, demonstrate your product or service, or introduce something new and innovative can benefit from marketing on YouTube. You need to be the type of person who doesn’t mind being on camera in order to use YouTube for promoting your business so if you enjoy making videos and like getting your message across through video then YouTube is for you.

Google+

Google+ has a lot of great features such as communities, hangouts, +1’s and much more which can result in a lot of interaction and engagement for you and your business. Everything you post on Google+ is immediately indexed by Google and if that isn’t a reason to use it I don’t know what is! Google+ has Google hangouts which are a free way of making your own video. Then, that video can also be posted to YouTube which I have talked about above. I have to say in my opinion that one of the best things about Google+ is great search engine results for your business… well Google+ is Google after all! Remember, with Google+ you have all of the resources of Google at your fingertips which is huge! One of my blog articles ranked on the first page of Google without even trying! You can also add authorship to your content which puts your profile picture next to your content in Google search results. If you want a place to promote your business that combines information, technology, people, and personalization all in one place then Google+ is for you!

So which is best for you?

Only you can decide which is why I strove in this article to give you the information you need to make an informed decision on what’s best for you. Ideally though, you want to focus on 1 or 2 social media platforms only when you are first starting out in order to master them first as trying to keep up with all of the social media platforms at once especially at the beginning can be too overwhelming and you may wind up spreading yourself too thin.
